BTLC: Jack's Truck

A late Happy New Year to you!

I recently did a Big Trouble in Little China themed stencil of Jack Burton's truck for a box containing a BTLC themed present...

Such a cool film, and I'm planning some other illustrations to do with the film so watch this space.

Foursight: VS Launch Night

So last Wednesday saw the launch night for the first publication, entitled 'VS', by our illustration collective Foursight

The book is a set of 20 illustrations, printed back to back, of pairs of opposite words, each illustrated by a different artist. The aim of the book was to get illustrators to compete with each other, to provide a book solely promoting great illustrators and there work, and with the competitors being kept secret, to ultimately put on an event/exhibition where they could meet their opponent.

Unbelievably its been about 6 months since we started the project back in May with the help of the guys at OWTCreative, so it was great to finally reveal the book for everyone to see!

I've posted some photos below of the book and the launch night, which had a great turnout and there was a lot of buzz about the book and the fantastic work submitted.

The launch and book had a boxing/fighter theme, so we had some fun taking polaroid style photos of everyone posing as boxers, and then coming up with their own boxing names to win a competition; as well as setting up a live draw-off, again to win some classy prizes. Who doesn't want a can of hotdogs?

Finally I'm now allowed to reveal my submission for the book, which was for the word 'War'. I thought it would be fun to mix together ideas of both modern and medieval warfare, and put in more detail than usual to make it look a bit like an old portrait.

A huge thanks to everyone who has supported us as Foursight as we've worked on the VS book, and to everyone who came down to the launch night!

The book is now available to buy from the online shop for only £10 so go check it out at this link

Big thanks to Emma Reynolds, Jennifer Byron and OWTCreative for taking these photos!

Stockport College Illustration Newsletter

So the Illustration department newsletters came through from the printer's recently with my image printed on one side. It's really cool to see the image in print, and I've posted a few snaps of it below. The newsletter has been printed up really nicely, and works as an A2 sheet folded up into an A4. When folded out, one side becomes an A2 poster, and the other side has all the illustration information and news from the spring and summer. I took a few photos of the inside too, and particularly the type at the top which I think looks great, so all credit to whoever put it together. Thanks!

OWT Issue #6

So I submitted a little illustration to OWT a while back for their 'Differences' issue, and they were kind enough to include it in the issue that's on sale at the moment! I blogged about my image I while back so I won't go into details, but I just used it as a chance to have a go at something a bit different (no pun intended) and mix together some of my ideas and influences from other people. Anyway, I've posted the image below along with photos courtesy of OWT of the actual zine in print. The zines are on sale on their website here, in Magma and I believe also the Cornerhouse in Manchester. Cheers guys!

Jude Buffum

I recently stumbled upon the work of Jude Buffum while thinking about pixel style illustrations for this current 8x8 project. He's got a whole category of really cool pixel work up on his website, so I thought I'd post a few pieces below ranging from illustration, to packaging design to furniture design, and you can check out more his work on his website (which is all pixel themed!) here. Enjoy.

Stolen Peace Album Launch

So on Thursday evening we went down to the Stolen Peace album launch gig at the Hard Rock Cafe in Manchester, where they were launching their album 'Bones', that I did an album cover design for last year. We had a good time and the band sounded fantastic! They had a few limited edition hard copies of the album for sale, and the lads did a signing after they played.
I've posted some images below of the album, and you can download it with the cover via amazon, itunes, etc, etc. Enjoy!

Brandon Schaefer

Brandon Schaefer is a graphic designer who's work I've posted about before but I thought I'd share a few more examples with you. I first saw some of his cool movie posters last year for films like The Shining, Back To The Future, Groundhog Day, and he's also done some nice CD packaging and typography that can be seen on his site here. He's got some prints up for sale at the Richard Goodall Gallery in Manchester if you want to check his work out up close. I've posted some of his work below for you to get your peepers on. Enjoy!

Black Book

I saw this cool little book on a packaging blog, and thought it was a cool mix of packaging and illustration. It is a book by design firm ILoveDust that includes lots of examples of their work. They have some really cool work which I'll blog about another time, but for now I've posted a couple of pics of the book below.
